OBJECTIVE OF THE
STUDY:
The broad
objectives of this study are to conduct economic analysis of cassava production
in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state.
Specifically, the Objectives of the study are to:
i.
Investigate the socio-economic characteristics of
cassava farmers in Ihiala.
ii.
Determine the cost and returns of investments in
cassava production.
iii.
Determine the relationship between socio-economic
characteristics of the farmers and their level of output.
JUSTIFICATION OF
THE STUDY:
This study is
expected to show the economic of cassava production by rural farm house holds,
to establish the socio-economic and policy strategies required to stimulate
rural enterprise.
The
study will equally enhance the farmers in the study area to improve on resource
allocation so as to achieve the needed goal optimally. The study would among
other things help to reveal the problems affecting small scale farmers in
cassava production as regard Ihiala L.G.A, as well as making recommendations on
how to solve them.
It
will be a great benefit to the industries making use of cassava products as
their raw materials, agricultural extension agents and others involved in rural
development. In giving useful advice to rural farmers on how to solve problem
of root-crop production. It will also be a source of reference to students who
are interested in carrying out an investigation and research based on the
related problems. The study will equally provide other information and
recommendations that will guide investment decisions in the cassava
subs-sector. It will equally ascertain the cassava varieties available and
their actual and potential yield.
LIMITATION OF
THE STUDY:
The major
constraints encountered in the course of the research were financial problem, bad road network leading to
accessibility unwillingness of the farmers to attend to researches, it includes
cost of consumables, logistics cost, cost of consultations to individuals,
libraries, cost of computer services, short –time frame available for the
research, among others.
RESEARCH
HYPOTHESIS:
Ho1: cassava production is not profitable in
Ihiala L.G.A. of Anambra state.
Ho2: The socio-economic characteristics of
cassava producers have no significant influence on cassava production.
