The
government is currently preparing a Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (PRSP)
under the supervision of the Economic Policy Coordinating Committee in the
office of the Vice President. The PRSP is a document that will show the
commitment of the government in addressing poverty reduction. It will contain a
comprehensive poverty reduction plan and strategies to address it over a time
horizon. A National Core Team which was inaugurated in February, 2001, is
responsible for the technical predation of the PRSP in two stages. The first
stage involved the preparation of an interim-Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper
(IPRSP), which would dovetail into the second stage of preparing the full PRSP.
The I-PRSP includes a stocktaking of the country’s current mechanisms for
poverty
reduction and a road map of how the country will develop its full PRSP.
The PRSP was completed in August, 2001, thus paving way for the preparation fo
the PRSP.
