Adolescent boys and girls in most
countries of the Region become sexually active at around the age of 12-13years
without any preparation about sexuality and contraception. by the age of
15years 56% of them have regular, often unprotected, premarital encounters
leading to unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions, acquisition of sexually
transmitted infections including HIV infection, and other social consequences
such as school drop-out and early marriage. Such high risk behaviour is likely
to continue throughout adult life.
