After
harvest, larvae residue were removed manually (by sweeping) and disposed.
SEED STOCKING
Refining selection for
stocking was conducted using sieve after the larva had fully developed into
pupa. The larger pupa were selected and stocked to guarantee high ratio of
adult emergence and hence, a high quality of egg for subsequent generation.
MAGGOT PROCESSING
The harvested maggots were washed using sieve in
a bowel containing clean. After washing
the maggots were dipped in hot water at 1000c for 10 seconds. The
died maggots were sundried for
2-3 days after which they were stored in an
airtight container little quantity of the dried maggots were ground into power
to form maggot meal (magmeal) which was prepared as sample for proximate
analysis.
PROXIMATE COMPOSITION
Proximate analysis of
maggot meal was carried out. Sample was divided into two, such as small larvae
sample (SLS) and big larvae sample (BLS).
