PHASES IN MALARIA FEVER/DIVISIONS OF CLINICAL FEATURES


 A. COLD STAGE/CHILLING STAGE: It starts with shivering and a feeling of intense cold. The teeth charter and pulse becomes rapid,skin becomes dry and pale with goose flesh appearance, vomiting may occur and children often have convulsion seizures. This stage last between 15 minutes to 1 hour.

B. HOT STAGE: It starts with feeling of intense cold that gives way to one of the distressing heat. The skin is dry, headache becomes intense, nausea and vomiting
is common. There is intense thirst and temperature may rise 410c or more. This stage lasts between 2-6 hours. Hypertension, backache, cough, abdominal pain and altered conscious may occur.
C. SWEATING STAGE: In this stage, the patient breakout in profuse sweats .so that his bedding becomes drenched. The temperature falls rapidly below normal level. There is generalized diaphoresis and marked fatigue which gives rise to sleep. This stage last from 2 – 4 hours.
