Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) are the natural pellet and high grade renewable fuel for burning, as received both in co firing with steam coal or burned at biomass power plants, usually blended with other grades of biomass, like wood chips. During the crude palm oil process, the fruit flesh is melted through a steaming treatment. The residual nuts are further mechanically
crashed to extract the seeds or Kernels. The crashed shells are virgin biomass called Palm Kernel Shells (PKS).
Palm kernel shells are versatile and have multiple uses; it can be used in its natural form for fuel at power stations, as a clean alternative to coal, to form activated carbon or to pave roads. We’re reducing emissions of EU power stations by encouraging them to burn biomass instead of coal, and also promoting and enabling enterprise in developing countries where we source our biomass from.

Crude Palm Oil (CPO):
The oil palm (elaeis guineensis) is a multi beneficial tree used in the production of palm oil , palm kernel, oil palm wine bottling, alcohol and yeast production as well as brooms, baskets coupled with various industrial uses which makes it one of the most profitable and less risky of all agricultural products. The tree starts bearing fruits in the fourth year and can be harvested for over 50 years. It yields about 12 bunches of fruits per year with each bunch weighing about 16kg. About 50-75 percent is the fruit the rest being stem. Maximum yield comes in the 9th 12th year varying from about 600kg to 900kg of bunches per hectare. The composition is 66 percent fruit to each bunch and about 20percent oil to each fruit.
Palm oil is an edible vegetable oil derived from the mesocarp (reddish pulp) of the fruit of the oil palms, primarily the African oil palm Elaeis guineensis,and to a lesser extent from the American oil palm Elaeis oleifera and the maripa palm Attalea maripa. It is naturally reddish in color because of a high beta-carotene content. It is not to be confused with palm kernel oil derived from the kernel of the same fruit,or coconut oil derived from the kernel of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). The differences are in color (raw palm kernel oil lacks carotenoids and is not red), and in saturated fat content Palm mesocarp oil is 41% saturated, while Palm Kernel oil and Coconut oil are 81% and 86% saturated respectively.
