NURSING IMPLICATIONS TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Negative Implications
1.      The implication of the afore mentioned challenges to nursing profession cannot be over emphasized.
2.      Relegation of nursing to poor background
3.      They relegate nursing profession to poor background. Nursing suppose to be a leading profession in medicine as they did in the early Egyptian civilization.
4.      Most of our nurses have changed from practicing nursing to read other courses of
psychology, mass communication, agric sciences etc
5.      The number of Nigerian nurse at other countries are many, this is as a result   of brain drain. They all look for greener pasture. This affects profession development of nurse life.
6.      The profession, some people have decided not to allow their children to be called nurses in public gathering, they would like to addressed as DOC, Chief, Oga etc. this type of attitude affect the professionalism?
7.      Furthermore, the challenges also depict nurses as a second class citizen. Example government do not like to engage nurses in policy making and implementation. Some nurses also make themselves too cheap, they way they dress, talk, reasons, marry etc.
8.      Poor societal rating:  no matter your position as a nurse the still do not rate you or equate you to be any stake holder. The society see nurses as doctors servants. They still assume that they learnt under the tutelage of doctors.
9.      The challenge makes us to be aggressive rather than been assertive, in an effort to exhibit and defend our supposed image
10. Again most our nurses prefer to remain poor as their inheritance. As they continue to serve doctors in their private clinic without improving themselves.
11. It also makes we call or deally of the nursing profession. This is manifested when any ugly situation happen in a hospital set up, the  nurse will be  the first person to accuse  just because we have not attained to standard  of a profession

Positive Implication
1.      The challenges are indicator that shows that we have not attained to a real profession. Without trial there will be no progress.
2.      It also creates an avenue to motivate us to join the trend of change eg politics  etc. this   will help us to participate in policy making and lobbying to achieve our goal.
3.      Furthermore, as a result of the challenges, we can come together to speak one vice as profession. Once there is unity can work in togetherness.
4.      The challenges also tries to make distinction to know who are really nurses. You know who is who when there is a problem. Now nursing is trying come out from the cocoon of humiliation. It is those who will end to the end will be called professional nurses.
5.      After the challenges it will make nursing profession full autonomous. Autonomy is one of the criteria for professionalization.
