FACTORS AFFECTING THE YIELD OF MAGGOTS

These factors are as follows;
i)                    SEASON OF THE YEAR
         During harmattan and dry weather, production is low while sunny weather, production is    high.

ii)                  TEMPERATURE
Generally, temperature below 300C affects the maggot yield while temperature at 300C or more encourages high yield.

iii)                HUMIDITY
Production of maggot is better in humid conditions

iv)                QUANTITY OF FLY ATTRACTANTS/BAITS
The more the quantity of attractants, the more number of flies and the greater the number of maggots produced.

v)                  Operational skills can affect the yield of maggot.

vi)                PREDATOR
Rats at night, lizards and birds in the day, ants if not prevented cover the field of maggots.
