Generally, the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) was established following the promulgation on 14th December 1989, of Decree 44 known as the Surveyors Registration Council of Nigeria Decree otherwise known as the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON). After codification, the Enabling Decree is now known as CAP 425 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990.

Furthermore, the Council succeeds the defunct Surveyors Licensing Board which had been in charge of licensing and discipline of surveyors in Nigeria. The duties of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) however differ a great deal from the duties of the Licensing Board which it succeeded.

The main aim of the Surveyors Council Of Nigeria recruitment is to create more jobs for Nigerian youths both graduates and undergraduates. By so doing, unemployment in Nigeria will be controlled.





The duties of Council are enumerated in section 4 of the Enabling Act. They include

  • First to determine who are surveyors for the purpose of the act
  • Secondly, to determine what standard of knowledge and skill are to be attained by persons seeking to become registered as members of the profession of surveying
  • Thirdly, to secure the establishment and maintenance of a register of persons entitled to practice the profession
  • Fourthly, regulating and controlling the practice of the profession in all its ramifications
  • Maintaining discipline within the profession
  • And, performing the other functions conferred upon the Council by the Act

Requirements.

Applicants applying for the Surveyors Council Of Nigeria recruitment must possess any of the following

  • At first, possession of B.Sc, HND, NCE, OND in any discipline from a recognized institution
  • West African School Certificate (WASC) or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) with Credits in not less than three (3) subjects including English and at least passes in two (2) other subjects; or
  • Then, National Examination Council (NECO)/General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level with passes in four (4) subjects obtained at one sitting or five (5) subjects obtained at two sittings including English Language.)
  • National Diploma (ND) obtained from a recognized institution. National Certificate of Education (NCE) from a recognized institution; or
  • Lastly, General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) in two (2) subjects obtained at one sitting or three (3) subjects obtained at two sittings.
