Pupils Win Laptops, Tablets in Akwa Ibom Quiz Competition (Uyo News Updates)

The Akwa Ibom State Government has said that the winners of a quiz competition, which it organised for secondary schools in the state as part of activities marking the state’s 30th anniversary, have been presented with their gifts.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy

Mr. Charles Udoh, in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the three secondary schools got trophies while the participating students were presented with laptops and tablets, presented by the deputy governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, who represented Governor Udom Emmanuel.


According to the statement, three secondary schools drawn from each of the three senatorial districts of the state took the first, second and third positions in the competition, which held at the civil service auditorium in Uyo, the state capital.



It added that the first position went to Secondary School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet in Onna local government with 24.5 points, while Northern Annang Secondary School in Etim Ekpo local Government Area came second with 24 points and Heritage College, Uyo, took the third position with 23 points.


The other six secondary schools that took part in the finals of the competition also got smartphones as consolation prizes,” the statement added.

The governor, who commended the students for justifying the investment in the education sector, promised that government would continue to make the learning environment more conducive, by providing basic amenities in schools across the state.


According to the statement, the state government had recently completed the recruitment of secondary school teachers while it had announced plans to recruit 3,000 primary school teachers.



Udoh, while unveiling the programme of events for the 30 years anniversary, themed, ‘Arise let us build the future together,’ described September as the month of celebration by the people of the state, adding that the 10-day celebration would feature several programmes, including inauguration of projects.
