Introduction
1.1 Background
of the Study
From studies and its reality a lot of factors militate
against effective
Christian participation in Nigeria polities. A lot of factors militate
against effective Christian participation in
politics; some of the factors
include: Ethnicity, religious intolerance, corruption, thuggery, greedy, money politics and God-Fatherism.
Ethnic polities play indispensable role in Nigeria body polities, Nigeria
politics is characterized by ethnicity since Nigeria independence in 1960, when
politics and political parties were formed along ethnic lines, any one who professes to
be a true Christian will find it difficult to
participate effectively where lie politics holds sway, Corruption rears its ugly head
in. (Nigeria-
politics; -in short- it is now an way of doing.
1.2 Statement
of the Problem
From Newsper, magazines, radio and television, a lot has been
heard, seen and read about politics and participation in politics.
Politics the world over and Africa in particular is seen as a
dirty game, it is seen as a game, for people without conscience and lots of
factors has militated against Christian participation in politics in a
different light, this has made many Christians not to participate in polities
or not to participate at all the level of corruption associated with Nigeria
politics will make any Christian worth his salt have a rethink. The flagrant
use of the thuggery and the hijack of politics by more bags and political God
fathers put a question make on effective Christian participation in politics.
Blatant rigging with the help of the law enforcement
agencies regrets that entire Christianity stand for. Hence the study is to
determine factors that militate against effective Christian participation with
special reference to Ishielu local government area.

Purpose of the Study
The purpose of the study is to find out the factors that militate
against effective Christian participation in politics in Nigeria with special
to Ishielu local government area. And also seek ways of ameliorating the
already bettered situation so, that Christian can participation based
approached.
1.4 Significance
of the Study
The work will reveal the factors that militate against effective
Christian participation in politics with special reference to Ishielu local
government Area. By under taking this study, the researcher hopes that the
findings will be an assistance to follow researchers that will wish to do in
depth study, Christian bodies and Non governmental organization (N G. O. S)
involved in the crusade for Christian participation in politics.
Generally this study will enable policy makers, Non
Governmental organization and stake holders to fashion out ways and strategies
for effective actualization of Christian participation in politics.
1.5 Scope of the Study
The study was restricted to Ishielu local government Area of
Ebonyi state. The scope of study was delimited to the ten communities and
twenty one words in Ishielu local government area.
1.6 Research Question
For the purpose of this research, the following research questions
have been formulated.
v What are the factors
militating against effective Christian participation in
politics?
v Do Christian in Ishielu government Area
effectively participate in politics
v Are
there any possible
solution for effective
Christian participation in politics
v Is it possible for Christian to
participate in politics with out being corrupt?
v Can corruption, money bag ethnicity be eschewed
from Nigeria politics?
Given
the level of thuggrey, manning, rigging and killing in
Nigeria politics, can a Christian come out undaunted.
Chapter Three
Methodology
3.1 Methodology
and Research Design
The
work was descriptive survey research: it used questionnaire as the main
instrument of data collection the researcher selected hundred (200) out of the
target population of (400) people. In the work, the researcher selected 1 1 and
1 8 villages in Ishielu local Government Area (L G A). The samples were drawn
from adult that can read and write because of the nature of topic. The data
collected were carefully analyzed using percentages.
3.2 Techniques
The
subjects were selected through stratified random sampling techniques the
population was 200 out of 400. The first group of 155 comprised under
graduates. Civil servant some politicians with a minimum of school certificate.
The second group comprised of business, traders selected
representatives making a total forty five (45) this brought the sample
population to 2003, and this was seen as representing the entire population on
the study.
3.3 Sampling
Techniques
The
researcher made use of random sampling technique where out of four hundred
(400) respondent; only two hundred (200) respondents were used. However it was
selected or covers all necessary adults that could supply the uniform action
3.4 Instrumentation
In the
researcher the major instrument used was questionnaire. It was on YES or No
patter. The instrument was tested on 50 person in, order to ensure to continued
relevance and validity, using face value analysis.

Procedure For Data Collection
The researcher employed the use of questionnaire for data
collection he administered the questionnaire to 200 selected respondents for
completion.
There respondents were made to answer the question on an Yes and
No basis.
3.6 Method
of Data Analysis
The researcher used
percentages to analyze the
data. The data were collected, tallied and converted into percentages for
proper analysis.
