1.0                               BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES
 The study cassava tubers are one of those agricultural products that can be cultivated in any part of the country. This is possible because they grow in relatively poor soil and in low rainfall areas. Nigeria remains the largest producer of cassava in the world. Cassava can be processed into chips, garri, flour fufu and livestock feeds for animal consumption.
The market  demand for cassava derivatives is increasing by the day especially in the Garri and flour processing industries, where the government policy of making composite bread flour mandatory to all bakers in Nigeria, combining 10% of um-fermented cassava flour with 90% wheat flour since January 2005, has created valued at over twenty-eight billion Naira.
Objectives of these Garri Processing Establishment includes:
1.         Maximize cross-fertilization among Nigeria Government Agricultural policy project (Loan and grants) in the area of cassava processing and marketing
2.         Develop new markets, both for existing and new cassava products.
To achieve these goals, this garri industry has envisaged the implementation of a set of actions meant to;
1.         Develop markets for both existing and new products
2.         Identify the best processing and marketing technologies and good practices for both raw and processed cassava roots within and beyond the region, and to adapt them to local conditions,
3.         Strengthen the mechanisms for exchanging cassava market and technological information in Nigeria.

3.0       PROPOSED LOCATION
            This Garri industry shall be located at Ezzamgbo, in Ebonyi State Nigeria. This is because the community is the largest producer of cassava tubers in the state. This is aimed at getting the raw material at a lower cost. Other factors to be considered in setting up a food processing industry are also obtainable in the region. This will go a long way in growing the industry to a standard in a little space of time.
4.0       PRODUCTION PLANT: MAIN DETAILS
            The plant is designed to process cassava and produce pre-cooked, sterilized garri to be vacuum-packed in 1kg plastic pouches. The main parameters of the target processing unit are summarized here below:
1.         Intake of raw material (cassava root): 3000kg/day (2 shifts of 8 hours/day).
2.         Out take of final product: 2000kg/day of garri in 1kg plastic pouches;
3.         Production capacity of the garrifying and packaging line; 200kg/h.

5.0       MAIN FEATURES OF THE RAW MATERIAL TO BE USED IN
THE PILOT PLANT:
Table below summarizes the main parameters of the proposed Garri processing plant varieties with a low content of toxic substances like hydrogen cyanide and with organoleptic features well accepted by local final consumers.

6.0       FEATURES OF THE FINAL PRODUCT
            The final feature of the product produced from the proposed investment will have to meet demand of those customers (such as hotels, restaurants and catering companies) who are increasingly demanding services to accompany the raw product.
            The table below summarizes the main features that are expected to grant the marketing success of the proposed new cassava derivate, along with the chief characteristics that its packaging will need to have
Marketing features
*  Consistent in terms of varieties used

*  Proving steady and guaranteed safety (Low/nil content of toxic components and of pathogens) and hygiene

*  Assuring a long shelf-life at room temperature (More than a month)

Showing to be consumer friendly in terms of services provided.
Packaging feature
* Primary packaging: 1 kg transparent plastic pouches vacuum-packed. Packaging material (polyethylene)

Secondary packaging:

7.0       DESCRIPTION OF THE GARRI PROCESSING PLANT
