THE NATURE OF DEMOCRACY IN THE CONTEMPORARY NIGERIA SOCIETY. A CRITICAL APPRAISAL

PROPOSED TOPIC FOR SEMINAR II (P.hD) RESEARCH IN THE
DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY, UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA

DEPT:                                    PHILOSOPHY
FACULTY:                           SOCIAL SCIENCES

ABSTRACT
Many centuries ago, Europeans dominated, controlled and manipulated Africa in the name of colonization. The white man claimed that his aim or mission was to civilize Africa. But under this fake assertion, Africans were dehumanized, robbed and made a mere functionary both at home and in Diaspora.
But post-colonial Africa is immersed in the search for self-identity and perhaps self-actualization. It is against this background that the anti-colonial struggle took the forms of cultural political nationalism. Outstanding in this group of African nationalists were Kwame Nkrumah W.E.B. Dubois, Marcus Garvey, Julius K. Nyerere etc., but on the course of this Seminar work wish to belabour heavily on Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana who developed both active, social and intellectual tools to consolidate these ideas. In his Opinion, Pan-Africanism is the vision for central government and this vision will help to entrench her relevance in the international scene. This seminar also will as well try to know if ways set  out by Kwame Nkrumah in his bid to practicalize pan-Africanism actually yielded any fruit at last, following the loopholes found in his goals, aims and ideology.
