In
Washington there was a 20% increase in enrollments for the Medicaid program and
the Children's Health Insurance Program in December as almost 2.3 million
people had enrolled.
Medicaid
and Children’s Health Insurance Program Saw Increased Enrollments
It
was reported by the centers for Medicare and Medicaid which is programs under
the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, said that states which had
expanded their Medicaid coverage saw higher enrollments, though some states saw
no changes.
These
enrollments were not determined through the federal government health exchanges
according to the HealthCare.com officials. Under The Affordable Health Care law
more people were eligible for the Medicaid and CHIP programs.
The
Affordable Care Act funded states to expand their Medicaid programs so more of
the uninsured citizens could be covered with health insurance. The states with
expanded coverage could cover people with incomes up to 133% of the Federal
Poverty level.
Compared
to the average for July through September, the number of December Medicaid enrolls were 73 percent higher in states that chose to expand Medicaid
compared to 3 percent in states that rejected the expansion. The Affordable
Care Act will cover adults who are eligible for the first three years and after
that pay 90% in the following years.
