A TREATISE BY REV. CHUKWUEMEKA EKUMAOKO SENIOR PASTOR, UNCOMMON LOVE ASSEMBLY
Gay
marriage, also known as same-sex marriage is a marriage between two persons of
the same biological sex and or gender identify. Legal recognition of same-sex
marriage or the possibility to perform a
same-sex marriage is sometimes referred to as marriage equality or equal
marriage, particularly by its supporters.
The first laws in modern times
enabling same-sex marriage were enacted during the first decade of the 21st
century. As of May 2013, thirteen countries (Argentina, Belgium, Brazil,
Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South
Africa, Sweden), allow same-sex couples to marry. Uruguay and New Zealand have
both enacted laws to legalize same-sex which will come into force in August
2013. Bills allowing legal recognition of same-sex marriage have been proposed,
are pending or have passed at been at least one legislative house in Andorra,
England and Wales, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg , Costa Rica Nepal,
Scotland, and Taiwan, as well as in parts of Australia, Mexico, and the united
state.
Introduction of same-sex marriage
laws has varied by jurisdiction, being variously accomplished through a legislative
change to marriage laws, a court ruling based on constitutional guarantees of
equality, or by direct popular vote (via a ballot initiative or a referendum ).The
recognition of same-sex marriage is a political, social, human right and civil
rights issue, as well as a religious issue in many nations and around the world,
and debates continue to arise over whether same-sex couples should be allowed
marriage, be required to hold a different status (a civil union), or be denied
recognition of such rights. Allowing same-gender couple to legally marry is
considered to be one of the most important of all LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
and Transgender) right. Same-sex marriages can be performed in a secular civil
ceremony or in a religious setting. Various faith communities around the world
support allowing same-sex couples to marry or conduct same-sex marriage
ceremonies; for example, Quakers, U.S. Episcopalians, the Metropolitan community church, the United
Church of Christ, the United Church of Canada, Buddhism in Australia, Reform
and conservation Jews, Wiccans, Druids, Unitarian Universalists and Native
American religions with a two-spirit tradition, as well as various progressive,
modern Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, and Jewish groups and various minor
religions and other denominations.
Studies conducted in several western
countries indicate that support for the legal recognition of same-sex marriage
increased with higher level of education and that support is strong among
younger people. Additionally, polls in
various Western countries show that there rising support for legally
recognizing same-sex marriage across race, ethnicity, age, religion, political
affiliation, and socioeconomic status. Before you hiss a sigh of relief that
this anti-christ evil wind is not blowing across Africa hear this:
Same-sex
marriage has been legal in South African since the civil union Act came into
force on 30th November, 2006. The decision of the constitutional
court in the case of minister of Home Affairs vs Fourie on 1st December,
2005 extended the common-law definition of marriage to include same-sex spouses
as the constitution of South Africa guarantees equal protection before the law
to all citizens regardless of sexual orientation and gave parliament one year
to rectify the inequality in marriage status. On 14th November 2006,
the National Assembly passed a law allowing same-sex couples to legally marry
230 to 41, which was subsequently approved by the national council of provinces
on 28th November, in a 36 to 11 vote, and the law came into effect
two days later.
South Africa was the fifth country,
the first in Africa, the first in the southern Hemisphere, and the second
outside Europe to legalize same-sex marriage.
Nonetheless, in many Africa
countries, there are moves to tighten the laws against on homosexuality. There
is a general clamp down on gay people by state and non-state actors. In most
African countries, homosexuality is a crime. South Africa is the only country
that has embraced gay right and has legalized gay marriage in Africa. But many
African countries are reluctant to emulate South Africa. They claim gay rights
are un-African and are incompatible with traditional African values as they
understand them. But don’t forget that the bill against same-sex marriage
passed by the legislators in Nigeria is
yet to be signed into law by Mr. President. Please pray he signs it.
On the other hand, it’s worrisome
and disturbing to note that there have been an increased pressure on African
nations to go against their conscience and legalize gay –marriage, as subtle as
it maybe, instigate moves to favors same-sex marriage. For instance, Fredrick
Nzwili on “HUFFPOST” July 5th 2013, quoted a comment
made by the U.S president in a news conference in Senegal during his recent
3-nation tour in Africa thus:
My basic view is that regardless of
race, regardless of religion, regardless of gender, regardless of sexual
orientation, when it comes to how the law treats you, how the state treats you…
people should be treated equally, and that’s a principle that I think applies universally.
Such statement favors gay marriage, but it is antichrist and anti-African
tradition.
In conclusion, a reference to the
bible in Genesis chapter nineteen shows that there was a legalization of gay
marriage in Sodom, Gomorrah the nations around them. Soon after gay marriage
was made legal men began to rape fellow men. What a devilish state. That is why
some men came to rape the angels of God that visited Lot.
But be it known to the nations that
have legalized gay marriage in our time that the Holy God did not to tolerate
the practice of gay marriage by Sodom, Gomorrah etc.
He destroyed them by fire. The same
God is about to visit the inequities of men. It does not matter what
civilization may think, the standard of God remains the same. Homosexuals and
Lesbians are offensive to God, because when men leave the natural use of the
woman, and burn in their lost one towards another, men with men having sexual
relationship, which is unseemly, they receive a recompense of their error which
is death.
Hence, gay marriage is a sign of the
end time because we are reliably informed that in the last days, men shall be
unholy, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God ( I Timothy 3: 1-5) Therefore,
let the christen- believers understand the gay marriage saga is a sign of the
end time and let the unbelievers supporting same-sex marriage understand that
same-sex is ungodly, evil , wicked, unrighteous, unholy, dirty , and
destructive.
But whosoever that is married to a
woman and is supporting same-sex( divorce)
the woman, marry his fellow man before he advocates for gay marriage. This is
non-sense.
