ABSTRACT
This
research study “Attitude of couples toward Child Adoption practices in
Abakaliki Urban of Ebonyi State” was carried out to determine the attitude of
couples towards child adoption practice in Abakaliki Urban of Ebonyi State. The
descriptive research method was used and systemic sampling technique was employed
in selecting the sample size made up of 160
couples. Well-structured questionnaire were used as instrument for data
collection. From the review of literature, it was discovered that child
adoption is a legal process which has the full backing of the
Nigeria law. It
was also found out that child adoption provides succor to childless couples whose
hope of having children of their own have been dashed by old age. From analysis
of data and result of finding, it was noted that male spouses have negative
attitudes towards child adoption practices. Religious beliefs of an individual
were also found to influence the attitudes of couples towards
child adoption. Finally suggestions for further studies were made among others to
include a research study on the impact
of gender on the acceptance of child
adoption.
