NAF Day Clebration at Juma'at Prayers & Interdenominational Church Service:

Recently, the NAF celebrated its 53 years anniversary in a grand style. Special prayers were held at the Juma'at Prayers mosque and also an interdenominational church service was held in honour of Nigerian Air Force.

The church service and prayers coincided with the Easter Sunday celebrations while the juma'at prayer was held on Friday 14th 2017. The Nigerian Air Force on Sunday, April 16 marked its 53 years of existence with an interdenominational church service at NAF Base, Bill Clinton drive, Abuja.


National news carried it that the service was well attended by many officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The service which was jointly co-celebrated by the Catholic chaplain Reverend Father Group Captain Phillip Kwaso and his counterpart in the Protestant church, Group Captain Diji Gani had a sermon titled: Sustaining the momentum.

During the service, Group Captain Kwaso said stated that the fact that the celebration of the 53 years of the Air Force coincided with the Easter celebration shows that the Nigerian Air Force has experienced a resurrection,’’ Where we were yesterday, we would never be today and forever more,’’ he included.


The Reverend father and other congregation in their various speeches commended the officers and men of the NAF for their achievements and specifically praised the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar for his focus on religious affairs in the NAF. 

The Chief of Administration in the NAF headquarters, Air Vice Marshal SL Alao was represented by Air Marshal Abubakar in the church service and noted that the NAF has increased infrastructure and develop its man power. Air Vice Marshal SL Alao speaking to journalists after the church service His words:

Let us look back and thank God for his many blessings and reflect on our lives in NAF especially as we face security challenges, so that we can have the strength to implement and uphold the Nigerian Air Force.’’ He also prayed that God should bless the NAF and all its officers and men in various units across the country.

After the church service, Air Vice Marshal SL Alao  spoke to journalists, he said: "We have to look back and reflect and thank God for where we are today, and in doing so one of the things the CAS has advised us to do is to rededicate ourselves to the service of our country."


"We are in trying times with various internal security challenges, but we continue to rededicate ourselves to ensure that we are able to fulfill our roles and enhance our capabilities in the fulfillment of our constitutional obligations."


And in doing so, we continue to pledge our unalloyed loyalty to the president and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, all elected officials and all Nigerians in constituted authority. We shall continue to wax stronger.’’
