WAEC BACKGROUND IN LIBERIA
The December Liberia Senior High School Certificate Examination (LSHSCE) is administered to candidates who were not successful in their first sitting at the LSHSCE either in the May or the December Examination and private candidates who can demonstrate proof of completing the 12th grade curriculum as prescribed by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Liberia . The actual date for the examination is communicated to the candidates through circular and public service announcements. Like the May examination, subjects offered for this examination are grouped into three categories: Core, General and Science Subjects.

WAEC ENTRY REQUIREMENT
The December Liberia Senior High School Certificate Examination (LSHSCE) is opened and administered to candidates who were not successful upon their first sitting and private candidates who can demonstrate proof (Transcript from last High School attended) of completing the 12 th grade in the Republic of Liberia after due registration with the West African Examinations Council. The entry period runs from August to October of each year.
All private candidates for the examination are to enter for a minimum of eight subjects and a maximum of nine subjects from the three subject groups as listed in the background above while candidates resitting the examination are to only sit for the subject(s) they were not successful in during their first sitting. Additional subjects such as vocational and technical subjects will be added in the future if the Ministry of Education deems it necessary.
WAEC CANDIDATURE
The candidature for the December LSHSCE is not as large as that of the May. The entries for the 2005, 2006, and 2007 examination were 1,752, 1581 and 5,161 candidates respectively while that of 2008 was about 4750.
WAEC GRADING
The grading system used at the LSHSCE is the stanine with 1 representing Excellent, 2 - Very Good , 3 - Good, 4 - 6 representing Credit, 7 - 8 representing Pass and 9 representing Fail . The grades boundary per subject for each of the grades is determined at the Subject Awards Meeting held by TDD after which the grade/calculation sheets are submitted to CSD for processing.
The final grade of a candidate has two components: Continuous Assessment Score ( CASS ) or School's Grade and Terminal Assessment Score (TASS) or WAEC's Grade with the Cass contributing 30% while the Tass contributes the balance 70% of the candidate's final grade. The CASS , for the Private Candidates are submitted to TAD by the candidates themselves. That is, they must present their transcript from their last school attended while the resitters CASS are obtained from their school grades already captured and stored by CSD (data base) when they first sat the examination.
WAEC RESULT/ CERTIFICATE
- Results are released to the candidates themselves as soon as they are ready.
- Certificates are awarded to only successful candidates on the examination.
- For a private candidate to qualify for a Liberia Senior High School Certificate, that candidate must pass in at least six subjects including the Core (Compulsory) Subjects and at least a subject each from the other two groups; while candidates resitting the test are to pass the subject that they failed in during their first sitting.
- Successful candidates are usually placed in either one of the three Divisions listed below:
Division I
- Pass at least six subjects from the three subject groups;
- Obtain an aggregate of at most 24 in the best six subjects; and
- Pass Mathematics and English Language with credit.
Division II
- Pass at least six subjects from the three subject groups;
- Obtain an aggregate between 25 and 36 inclusively in the best six subjects; and
- Pass Mathematics and English Language with credit.
Division III
- Pass at least six subjects from the three subject groups;
- Obtain an aggregate between 37 and48 in the best six subjects; and
- Pass Mathematics and English Language with a grade of 7/ 8.
