WAEC
The West
African Examination Council this body came into being in the year 1952. It was
found or established in 1952 with the
primary aim of taking care of the educational concern of Africa. It is not a profit oriented establishment. The West Africa Examination
Council (WAEC) has provided educational services to Anglophones countries in Africa.
There establishment role is anchored on the provision of examinations and certificate issuance to these
countries under their coverage which
includes Nigeria, Ghana, Gambia Sierra
Leone and Liberia. They also formed an endowment fund, to contribute to the
education in West Africa through lectures and aid those who can not afford
education.
As
a matter of fact, WAEC from the
time of its inception in 1952
till date has carried out their
arduous task effectively amidst challenges they have conducted various cadre of examines
as well as insured certificates to
deserving students. They have also
improved educational standards through their various lectures organized in African schools.
PROBLEMS
FACING WAEC
The major problem WAEC is the ugly
trend of examination malpractices. Students sitting for the examination has
resorted to using assorted methods to indulge in malpractice such as
gaining the knowledge of exam paper
(questions) before the examination etc other
problems arises in misspelling of candidate name and sometimes given a
candidate courses he did not apply for.
In addition, it is a very big challenge conducting exams for all the various
secondary schools throughout the regions covered by WAEC. How to recruit
invigilators for those various exams equally constitute their major challenges
in meeting up with the required academic standards.
NECO
The national examination council
established in Nigeria in the year 1999 with its headquarter located in Minna
State. It was established to carry out the following functions:
Revising and considering , annually in the public interest the examinations to be held for admission into federal government colleges and other allied institutions.
Collecting and disseminating
information on all matters relating to admission into federal government colleges.
Generally, handling the conduct of examinations in the
secondary school level of SS 3 and issuance
of certificate.
So far, the board to a large extent has made tremendous move towards providing the
educational needs of Nigerians was well as replacing the West
African Examination Council.
PROBLEM
FACING NECO
The major problem militating
against NECO just like any other educational organization of the sort is examination
malpractices. This is the situation whereby students on their own or connive
with teachers to cheat in examination.
This is nearly a problem because it is seriously dragging the quality of
education in Nigeria to be floor. The
national examination council is bent on overcoming this problem.
Another major problem militating
against NECO is the efficient conduct of SSCE for all the schools
throughout the nation regarding
accessibility and registration of school candidates
NTI
Nigeria teachers institute
was established in 1976 with
headquarter at Kaduna primarily for the pressing need in the country for
trained qualified teaching staff at all levels of the educational system.
It I a national agency charged with
t responsibility of upgrading teachers skills in Nigeria
especially at primary and secondary
level. Over the years, the NTI has provide courses of
instruction leading to the
upgrade development and certification of Nigeria
teachers as specified in the
relevant syllabuses using the
distant learning system.
They work towards
the enhancement of the professional skills of serving teachers for higher
quality education delivery at primary and secondary
levels with a view to uplifting
the standards of the education system of
the country.
The national teachers institute
upgrade the teachers knowledge and skills in curriculum implementation while
instilling in them the virtues of dedication, loyalty, commitment, discipline
and resourcefulness.
PROBLEM
FACING NTI
The institution is faced with the
challenges of producing competent and
qualitative teachers to meet up with the increasing demands of education in
Nigeria. These has been there major struggle since its establishment to ensure that the quality of teachers they
produce can compete favourably with
teachers in any other part of the world.
UNESCO
Untied Nation Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization
is a
specialized agency of the United
Nation (U.N). its purpose is to
contribute to peace and security by promoting
international collaboration through
education, science, and culture
in order to further universal respect
for justice the
rule of law and human rights along with
fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the U.N charter UNESCO has 196 members with National and Regional
Offices. Its main scope is under fire
programmes: education natural sciences, social and
human sciences, culture and communication and information. The sponsor programmes such as
literacy technical and teacher
- training programmer; international science programme, promotion of the fress, regional and cultural history
projects; the promotion of culture
diversity: international co-operation and agreement to secure the world
cultural and natural heritage.
PROBLEMS
FACING UNESCO
The major problem militating against UNESCO is financial problem . Poor
funding of the institution is a major
blow against its survival. The contributors to the financial up
keep of the organization are member
countries, these member countries
failure to pay their usual dues
constitute the major challenges of the UNESCO.
In addition, the vast territories under the coverage of UNESCO
equally constitute a challenge to the over all efficient administration of
the organization. This has given rise to
mismanagement and waste of funds in
some areas of note. In school
most of the giant donors like USSR, Britain, America has
joined the third world countries
to become demanders. Their demands
are multitudinous and UNESCO is
really finding the demand very challenging.
JSSCE
Junior School Certificate Examination is the
examination organized by the National
Examination council (NECO) for
those in the second cadre of the 6334 educational system operated by Nigeria.
The examination enables a
transition from Junior
Secondary at their third year after sitting
for the exam with a minimum of ten subjects and must
obtain at least six passes
include in English and
Mathematics.
This JSCE is meant to
certify that students has reached the required criteria for moving over to the
senior secondary level.
PROBLEMS
FACING JSCE
Starting from the year 2006, the JSCE has been
confronted with a lot of challenges.
Notable among them is financial
problems . I has been a clog on the
wheel of JSCE because of the improper funding and low finance
generation in meeting up with her yearly demands of organizing exams and issuing certificates. There is
problems also on how to pay the various staffs
of the JSCE and other things
which requires money.
Another major
problem is how to effectively teach thirteen or all the required
subjects in Junior secondary school for
the student to pass as much
as required.
In addition,
the students, the teacher also constitute
a prolem because the teachers has the role of teaching
effectively while the students has their
own role of studying to make these achievable
is a problem facing the JSCE in Nigeria amongst other.
In conclusion, it has been surveyed that these academic institutions were established
with some aims and objectives. These they
have carried out in the midst of challenges starting form their various
periods of establishment till date. They
are faced with various degrees of challenges trying to undermine
its aims and objectives for its establishment . These are what have been
variously x-rayed with the aim of
providing recourse to the continual and successful operation of those organizations as discussed above.
