This
follow –up question was to find out on qualitative order the amount these women
quarry workers are paid. The responses indicated that these women are paid on the
amount bargained for on a particular job.
Some of the responses from follow-up and probes from in-depth interview,
indicated that for breaking of one tipper load of stone lumps, the women are
paid in some cases N3,500.00 naira to be shared by all the women who did the job.
Equally
on loading, the women get one thousand,
five hundred to two thousand naira for tipper load that weighs six (6) tones. Some

This amount could be shared amongst 6, 8 to 10 women which will come to
nothing. This falls to the observation made by the International labour Organization
(2003), that women in the unorganized sector, like in the small- scale quarry
mines are expected to work beyond formal working hours and are finally paid
wages that are well below subsistence.

with a combined figure of 1091, specifically showing Ebonyi north with 317
females and 125 males, Ebonyi central, 232 females and 128 males , while Ebonyi
south had a total figure of 241 females and 86 males.
B.
Responses on whether workers get special incentives for work done.
The
observation here from the table and chart show that women do not get special
incentives for work performed. The issue here was to find out whether there are
ways workers are encouraged to improve on their performance and also whether
their are provisions for their welfare.
The
responses that have the highest number of respondents; 1129 or 98.2 percent
indicates that there are no special incentives for the women quarry workers.
