STUDY DESIGN
This study
is mainly a survey design, which concentrates on the Onicha Igboeze. As such I
administered questionnaire to ensure a more comprehensive and workable results.
The questionnaire is meant to elicit information from the sample population.
SCOPE
OF THE STUDY
Due to heavy financial burden and time constraints
faceting the researcher, the study will focus strictly on Onicha Igboeze community.
The study will cover the prevalence of poverty and prostitution, their effects
or consequences.
POPULATION
OF STUDY
The population of the study comprises of the young
youths, the men and the women that line in Onicha Igboeze community. At the
point of the study, the total number of people that live in the area was one
hundred and two thousand, one hundred and fifty one (102, 151) people (source
federal government of Nigeria population 2006).
SAMPLE
SIZE AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUE
To determine the sample size, a certain fraction of
the total population was determined using the following procedure

Where
(f) stands for the fraction of the population from which one respondent is
chosen and (N) stands for the total population.
3.4 Therefore, a sample size of 170 was drawn
and used for the study. A sample random and sampling technique was used to give
every respondent an equal opportunity of being selected and also to avoid
personal bias.
INSTRUMENT
FOR DATA COLLECTION
For purpose of this research, and having examined the
various nature of the complexities involved in human interactions especially as
it relates to poverty and prostitution issues. It became important to adopt
more board based data on the study area.
We had thus, opted to utilize the
questionnaire approach as well as personal interview and group discussions
together the necessary information to aid this work.
In the process of carrying out this
research 200 questionnaires were distributed to residents of the study area
while personal interviews of 20 selected number of prostitutes were conducted
together intermation. The questionnaire was based on the research questions
earlier stated.
In addition to this, literature from
other sources such as text books, magazines, pamphlets and newspapers were
used.
DATA
ANALYSIS AND PROCESSING
In view of the various nature of the causes of poverty
and prostitution in the study sample population, it become possible to employ
simple percentage to analyze the data collected.
In addition, most of the questions
posted to respondent were analyzed in percentages. This approach was view as
being able to assess the magnitude of the variability of the variable under
study.
We believe that the various approach
utilized to present the results of the findings will illicit deep interest
amongst those who have particular interest in the problem of poverty and
prostitution in our micro research area.
Lastly, about two hundred (200) questionnaires
were administered to both men and women, the researcher solicited their help
and co-operation. Out of 200 questionnaires given out, only 150 were returned.
