SYSTEMS OF WASTE DISPOSAL

Systems of waste disposal are designed to eliminate these hazards, but whatever, system adopted must be culturally, scientifically and politically acceptable to the users and financially affordable.
The systems are:
a.         contractual operation
b.        government administered

c.         private system

Contractual  operation
This is a common practice in big cities such as Abuja,  Lagos, Ibadan and even alabar whereby refuse disposal is contracted to refuse firms. They are solely responsible  for collection, final disposal and  treatment of refuse.

Government  administered
This second system is the  government  administered programme whereby  either  the local  government   alone or in collaboration with the state  government  manages  refuse under the local government edict.

 Private system
It is a system whereby the  individual go about   collecting refuse from households, institutions and market squares on a fee then dispose off it at the government approved sites  accordingly.
These  three systems are not practiced in abakaliki  urban but have been in practice in Abuja, Calabar, Anambra and Lagos.  In Abakaliki,  it is only the state  government  alone that manager refuse.
