GAMBIA CONSTITUTIONAL PROCESS


Gambia was the last British colonial state to achieve political independence in West Africa four periods was identifies in their constitutional development process they are as follows:
1.      The period of colonial administration
2.      The period of representative
3.      The period of internal self government
4.      The period of complete independence  

From 1963 Gambia took over all internal matters with the exception of police affairs. Cabinet system of government was first introduced in the same year with prime minister named. A clause in the 1963 constitution made provisions quarantining fundamental human rights. Gambia became a republican state on February 18th 1966, no Queen, no head of state of Gambia, no Governor General rather president.
