DATA PRESENTATION AND ANALYSIS OF CHILD ADOPTION

This chapter deals with the analysis of data collected by the researcher from the respondents. A total number of one hundred and sixty copies of questionnaire were distributed to the respondents and all were returned. The findings were analyzed and presented using multiple bar charts and pie charts.
Research question 1:  What is the attitude of couples towards child adoption practice? 
The data answering this question are questionnaire item number 1, 2 and 3 and were analyzed and presented in the component bar chart  below.
Item 1:  Couples do not consider adoption children as bonafide members of their families.

Item 2:  Couples have poor feelings towards child adoption.
Item 3:  Couples prefer adopting  infants  than  older children.
From the above multiple bar  questionnaire  item 1,  102(64%)  of the  respondents  agreed, 38(23%)  strongly agreed, 16(10%) disagreed while  4(2%)  strongly disagreed that couples do not consider adopted  children as bonafide members of  their  family. In  questionnaire item  2,  (96(60%) of  the respondents agreed,  38(24%)  strongly  agreed,  20 (12%)  disagreed while  6(4%)  strongly  disagreed that couples do not  support  child adoption. In  questionnaire item 3,  106(66%)  of the  respondents agreed,  30(19%) strongly agreed, 18(11%)  disagreed while  6(4%)  strongly that  couples have  poor feelings  towards  child  adoption.

Research question  2: How  does gender  influence the attitudes of couples towards  child  adoption? 
The  data answering this  research question are questionnaire item  4 and  5  and were analyzed  and presented  in the multiple bar chart below.

From  the above  multiple bar chart,   questionnaire  item  4,  104(65%)  of respondent  agreed,  44 (28%)  strongly agreed, 7(4%) disagreed while  5 (3%)  disagreed while  5(3%)  strongly disagreed  that men would  rather remarry than go  for child adoption.
In questionnaire  item  5,  100(62%)  of  the   respondent agreed, 42(26%)  strongly  agreed,  12(8%)  disagreed  that  the gender of an individual is a strong  determinate of his acceptance of child adoption
Research  question 3:  What are  the factors that influence the choice of adoption as a management   option for  infertility?
The data  answering  research question  3  and questionnaire item number  6,7 and 8  and are   analyzed  and presented  in the component  bar chart  below.
 
From the above component bar chart, in questionnaire  item 6,  42(26%)  of  the  respondents agreed,  110(69%)  of  the respondent strongly  agreed while  5(3) disagreed and  3(2%)  strongly disagreed that  the choice of adoption as a management option for infertility depends on the cause of the infertility. In  questionnaire  item a7,  32(20%)  of the  respondent agreed, 115(72%)  strongly agreed  that spouse support for adoption  makes  the process  of  adoption easier  while  8(5%)  disagreed and  (5(3%)   strongly disagreed. In questionnaire  item 8,  107 (67%)  of the respondent agreed,  38(24%)  strongly  agreed,  11(7%)  disagreed while  4 (2%)  strongly disagreed while  4(2%)  strongly  disagreed that the choice of adoption  by infertile couple can be helped by advice and information  from  health workers.     
Research Question 4:  What are the factors that hinder the process of adoption?
The data  answering   research question  4  are questionnaire item number  9,10,11  and  12  and are  analyzed and presented with  pie charts and bar  chart below

 From  the  above bar chart, questionnaire item 9,  98(61%)  of the  respondent agreed,  52(33%)  strongly agreed, 7 (4%)  disagreed while  3(2%)  strongly disagreed that some  cultures do not accept   child adoption

In  the pie chart above representing questionnaire  item  10 35(22%)  of the respondents agreed,  110(69%)  strongly  agreed, while  15(9%)  disagreed that the financial burden of child adoption is not affordable by most adoptive couples.
 
In the above pie chart representing questionnaire item 11, 56(35%) of the respondents agreed while 104(65%) strongly agreed that the children and their offspring are often stigmatized in the society.

In the pie chart above representing questionnaire item 12, 119(74%) strongly agreed while 9(6%) disagreed that the undue delay process and protocol hinders couples from option for adoption.
