On October 1
1990 Ebonyi state was created along with other five states in Nigeria by the
then military head of state, late general Sani Abacha.
Ebonyi Broadcasting service (EBBS)
98.10 MH2 frequency modulation (FM) 2x2 fx Radio station was established on 3rd
February, 1997 with an initial 200 feet mast and later increased to 250 feet
presently 500 feet.
The transmission of radio station
commenced on march 22, 1997. Earlier the pioneer military administrator of Ebonyi
state. Navy caption Walter Feghabor applied for both radio and
television
licenses to the national broadcasting commission (NBC) on March 3, 1997.
On July 22,1997 EBBS radio started
airing commercial programmers, also on August 5, 1997 the first news bulletins
were transmitted while the five global came on air in April 1, 1998.
LEGAL INSTRUMENT
On 5th March, 1997 the
management of EBBS forwarded the drat Edict of the organization to the ministry
of justice Ebonyi state through the military of information and state
orientation for vetting. Thereafter the military of justice in September 22,
1998 forwarded a justified copy of the Edict-to the then military administrator
his Excellency commissioner of police Simeon Oduoye for assent. There upon the
military administrator assented to it
and consequently, Ebonyi broadcasting service
(EBBS) Abakaliki received its,
legal instrument (backing by edict
no 1 of
1990.
Staffing:L
The
organization is a fusion of the former
staff of reebonyi state origin from
broadcasting cooperation of abia
state (BCA) umuahjia and enugu
state broadcasting service (esbs) enugu.
The initial staff strenth was 86, while one management staff was absorbed
in the state civil service as a permanent secretary. Apart from loss by death withdraw/resgnation and formal
retirement the current staff strngth is 81.
it is pertinent the state that by provision in part vii no 33 (1)
to (2) of edict no 1 of 1999, staff of EBBS were formally absorbed into the
state public/civil services as follow:
“the
services of staff of Ebonyi state origin of the broadcasting corporation of
Abia state (BCA) and Enugu state broadcasting service (ESBS) are hereby
transferred to the organization and their services continue.
MOVEMENT
TO THE PERMANENT SITE
Following the
state government directives, movement of staff and equipment to the EBSU
permanent site was completed in September 2005.
EBBS
now transmitting on 98. 1 FM 30*30 KW transmitter with 500 feet mast.
