ABSTRACT
This research work diagnoses the level, composition and impact of government expenditure on education in Nigeria’s economic growth. In attempt to investigate this, regression technique was employed in the analysis where such tests as F-test, T-test, coefficient of multiple determination (R2), standard error test (S.E) and Durbin Watson statistics were used for the statistical tests. In the model, Recurrent Government Expenditure on Education (RGEE), Capital Government Expenditure on Education (CGEE) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) were used as proxies to capture the study. The result reveals that Government Expenditure on Education has a significant impact on Economic Growth of Nigeria within the period; 1980-2008. Based on this, it was recommended that the allocation from the federation account to the state and local governments should be increased to allow them improve on the expenditure in the education sector and minimize the incessant industrial action embarked by Teachers and Lecturers almost every year.
