ADVERSE EFFECTS OF VANCOMYCIN

Vancomycin is a tricyckic glycopeptide that has become increasingly important because of its effectiveness against multiple drugs resistant orgasnims such as methiciline resistant staphylococci.

Adverse effect

Side effects are serious problem with vacomycine and include fever, chills and/or philebitis at the infusion site. Shock has occurred as a result of rapid administration.

Flashing (“red man syndrome”) and shock result due to histamine release causes by rapid infusion. Dose related hearing, loss has occurred in patients with renal failure who accumulate the drug.
