EVALUATING THE CHALLENGES MILITATING AGAINST RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA



ABSTRACT
This research work is an evaluation of the challenges militating against rural development in Nigeria: A case study of Ebonyi Local Government Area. Indeed the primary reason for this study is to fulfill one of the necessary requirement for the award of Bachelors Degree in Public Administration and Local Government, but there are other cogent reasons behind the choice of this topic and embarking on the findings. During the course of this study on the factors militating against rural Development in the rural communities, it was established that they are diverse and complex. They range from high level of illiteracy, insufficient pursuit of self-help projects in rural communities maladministration by the Local Government Chairmen, poor rural development planning and infrastructural decay and insufficiency and rural poverty of the people. The impact and severity of these problems vary from community to community. It was based on these identified hindering forces that a number of strategies of the predicaments were suggested.
