Text: John 17:1-26
Introduction: Sanctification is one of the very important
Christian doctrines that have been grossly misunderstood and misapplied. In
essence, most Christians view it only as a theological concept that has not
practical relevance. It is the will of God for us (1 Thess. 4:3a) and,
therefore, should be desired. Let us through this study get the right
scriptural consent.
DISCUSSION POINTS:
1. What
do you understand by the term sanctification? 2 Chron. 29:5,15-18; Lev. 27:16
2. For
the Christian, sanctification has three aspects:
(a) Positional sanctification - 1Cor.
6:11; Heb. 10:10.
(b) Experiential sanctification -1Peter 1:15-16; Heb 12:14 2Cor 7:1
(c) Ultimate/Future sanctification – 1John 3:1-3;
Eph. 5:26-27; Jude 24-25
3. What
is the difference between:
(a) Sanctification and Holiness?
(b) Sanctification and Salvation?
4. If
sanctification essentially means setting apart,
(a) From
what should we separate ourselves? John 15:19; Col. 1:13; 1John 3:8
(b) Unto
whom and what should the setting apart be? John 15:1-2; 1John 3:6-7; 4:4-6.
CONCLUSION: Having
got the right concept of sanctification let us go on to desire and make it real
in our lives. This is the will of God for us.
