ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED DURING THE PRA
Group discussion, Transect walk and wealth ranking exercise


FOCUSED GROUP DISCUSSION
            This approach was used to generate further information on the situation observed during the PRA. The issue of water scarcity seems to be pending issues as most participants complained about the situation bitterly. The discussion also revealed that mobility is very difficult during the rainy season. Poverty level was also estimated to be high, virtually every house hold in the community appear to be engaged in subsistence agriculture.

RESULT OF THE TRANSECT WALK 
            The community is surrounded by farmland from all circulation. Crops cultivated as explained by farmers includes, cassava, yam, rice, vegetables etc. soils are mostly sandy, loamy, clay, and the temperature was about 35oC. The community production method is manually only. Inadequate water for livestock and lastly poor road network is to be also responsible for low production among the farmers.
 Based on the foregoing, the following needed to be provided:
a.           Farm inputs supports-(Fertilizers, improved seeds, herbicides, weedicides, knapsack  sprayer,
b.           Processing equipments
c.           Bore holes (for irrigation)
d.           Training on book-keeping
e.           A fadama road

INSTITUTIONAL ANALYSIS
Norms: some of the norms at community includes, women not climbing palm trees, and not allowed to take decision alone. A man without a wife not seen as mature man to handle elderly positions. Their market: are   Nkwo   ugwulangwu,Eke-Okposi,Nkwo Achara, and nkwo  ukawu. 
Social amenities includes:  primary schools ,secondary schools, health centre, electricity, and single tarred road from Okposi to Ukawu.

STAKE HOLDER ANALYSIS
a.           Primary stake holders: includes the FUG and the FCA who are direct beneficiaries
b.           Secondary stake holder includes: the village heads, and the entire Ohaozara L.G.A
c.           Supporters: these are the marketers, transporters, NGOs
d.           Opponents: opponents of the project includes the elites, politicians, and middlemen
e.           Vulnerable groups: vulnerable group around us are the windows, elders, and orphans, this class of people find it difficult to help themselves so they dependents.
f.            Other group with interest: are youth and marginalized groups

 Person with power and influence as it regards to the project:  they are the village heads,
ADP zonal manager and the local government authorities.
Open wells were mostly observed, but further enquiry revealed that  the water levels are low and so much stress is associated with getting water for livestock, dry season farming and human use. Many trader and local Artisans abound in the community. Roads are not in good condition and the major means of transportation are bicycles and motorcycles.

 NEEDS ASSESSMENT
A causal diagram was utilized to identify problems and their causes. Poor standard of living happened to be the core problem as most persons cannot feed well nor acquire some basic assets e.g bicycles, farm inputs, houses and send their children to school.   The major cause included: low crop yield due to use of traditional and inefficient production equipment and high cost of input.

SWOT ANALYSIS
Strength: Committed leaders, nearness to the market
Weaknesses: Lack of capital, high cost of inputs, subsistence farming.
Opportunities: Extension support, fertile lands, high income generated
Threats: Low capital base, pest attack, flood, high cost of living.
HIV/AIDS
The threat to life and good living through HIV/AIDS is known and its causes is also known by the people through various agents of sensitization.
