THE UNITED STATES DEFINITIONS OF TERRORISM


(i)        United States 1996 Anti-terrorism Act defines terrorism states, unlawful
use of violence against the United States, citizens of the United States or any other nations, outside the boundaries of the United States apparently intended to intimidation or coerce a civilian population, influence government policy or to affect it the conduct of  government for political or social objectives.
(ii)       The 2001 United and strengthening America by providing Appropriate tool Required to
intercept and obstruct terrorism Act (Patriot Acts) definition is stated as follows:
For crimes to be defined as “terrorist acts” the government must show that they were calculated to influence or affect the conduct of government by intimidation or coercion”. Or to retaliate against government conduct”.
The French coined the term “terrorism” during the French revolution. The French criminal code specifically states that: Acts are terrorist acts when they are internally committed by an individual, entity or by collective entity in order to seriously disturb law and order by intimidation or by terror. The league of Nations convention of 1937 defined terrorism”.
All criminal acts directed against a state and intended or calculated to create a state of terror in the minds of particular persons or a group of persons or the general public. 
            In December, 1999, The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 54/109 stated that:
Criminal acts intended or calculated to provoke a state of terror in the general public, a group of persons or particular persons for political purposes are in any circumstance unjustifiable, whatever the considerations of a political, philosophical, ideological, racial, ethic, religious or other nature that may be involved to justify them.
