The polytechnic was established in the year 1976. It is owned by Enugu state government. The state governor is the special guest of
honour and special visitor of the institution. He has the mandate of constituting
board of governing council whom the Rector, who is the executive officer, is
accountable to. The governing council
reports same to the state government on the activities of the institution.
The school is located at the centre of Enugu Town,
behind the state own radio station (ESBS) at independence layout. It has both
campus one and two. In these two campuses, there are buildings conducive enough
for offices and classrooms for the purpose of smooth operation of
administrative duties, teaching and learning activities
The polytechnics also award ordinary national diploma (OND)
and higher national diploma (HND) certificate to deserving graduands on
completion of the prescribed course of
choice. Over the years the polytechnics has produced graduates in their
thousands from different field of human endeavour. The
management organogram is akin to aforementioned institution. The culture
of the institution is “skill and service” and its is referred to as first
generation polytechnics.
Fundamentally, taking a look at both institutions in
the southeastern part of the country will attest to the fact the two
institutions were established solely on one ideology, which is the production
of skill manpower development in Nigeria and in the South East in particular.
Specifically, there are some cultural
variables, which has a great role to play in attaining a set organizational
goals and these are, expected organizational behaviour, individuals personality
and collective experience. Again, a good organization measures its performance
based on some performance variables
which includes, the quality of its product, organizational reputation and availability technological
know-how.
