ABSTRACT
This research focuses on
The Challenges to Pension Administration in Nigeria Local Government System : A
study of Ebonyi State. It deals squarely on the problems of pension
administration.
The main objectives of the study are to advocate a functional way to pension administration in Nigeria local government system, and to find out the root cause of the prevalent problems militating against pension administration and suggest recommendations. A survey data collection method by means of questionnaires and interview, as well as examination of documents and observation of thing were adopted to generate the data used to investigate the problems under study.
The respondents comprised of 300 people made up of 200 from the various local government area and 100 from the sub-treasury zones of Ebonyi State. Quota sampling technique was used to administer equal number of questionnaires to each local government and the sub-treasuries zones on the basis of assumption of equality of local government and sub-treasury zones. The simple percentage method was used in the analysis of the data generated for the study.
The hypotheses tested showed the following results. That the pension administrations are not living up to expectation and there are problems facing them. That the degree of neglect /disregard to duties by pension officers is detrimental to retirees. That the pension administrators deployed to Ebonyi State does not have the strength knowledge and experience to carry out pension administration duties diligently. That the material available at the disposal of the workers in pension office is of great extent to enable them work effectively, but the reverse is the case. Finally the summary of main findings was made, conclusion and recommendations on the way forward were preferred.
