METHODOLOGY FOR RESEARCHING ABOUT POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE

This chapter consisted of the research design, area of study, population of the study, sample and sampling techniques, instrument for data collection as well method of data analysis.
Research Design
The researchers  used the descriptive  survey research design to investigate  counselors views on factors  responsible for poor academic performance of secondary schools  students.
Area Of Study
This research was conducted in secondary schools in Izzi local government area which is made up of sixteen (16) communities, and grouped into three development centers.

Population for the Study
The population for the study was (300) three hundred counselors serving in secondary schools in Izzi Local Government Area.
Sample and sampling techniques
Random and sampling was employed in the selection of the secondary schools, counselors for the study.
A total number of eleven out of 20 schools were sampled for the study. All the counselors in each of the school were used as sample. This gave a total of 200 as the sample size.
Instruction for Data Collection
This study made use of the questionnaire as the instrument used to elicit information from the respondents. Letters were written to seek for permission to collect data from the sampled schools.
Validation of the Instrument
After constructing the questionnaires it was given to the project supervisor and some lecturers in Federal College of Education Eha-Amufu for validation.
Method of Data Collection
The questionnaires were distributed to the respondent, who responded and they were collected immediately.
Method of Data Analysis
The data was analyzed descriptively using percentages and frequency tables.
