The eye is the organ of the body that enables us to
see, it has the power of seeing and observing events. The human eye is shaped
like a ball, and it rest on a layer of fat, in the eye-socket. It reacts to
light, and as a conscious part of the human’s body it permits vision. The human
eye works in similar way to a photographic camera, with the help of the eye
lens, retina, receptor of retina, a message is sent to the optic nerve to the
brain, that now interprets the image. The eye has both external and internal
structure, and it is the window of the body. All these attributes makes the eye
an important sense organ, so we need adequate care and knowledge of the human
eye.
IMPORTANCE OF THE EYE

CARE OF THE EYE
(1)
We have to eat right to protect our
eyes e.g. eating food rich in vitamin A e.g. carrot, fish, apple (vegetables,
onions, garlic) etc which can equally enrich our vision.

Wash the face with clean water and
wipe with clean dry towel everyday when you wake up from bed, especially in the
morning.
(3)
Do not allow chemicals and smoke
into the eye, because it could cause eye infection.
(4)
Avoid direct bright light, it could
damage the eye (E.g. sun rays).
(5)
Read under good light/illumination.
(6)
Children should avoid looking
directly at welder’s light in order not to damage their eye.
(7)
Avoid the use of dirty hands or rags
on your eyes (make sure you wash your hand before eye contact).
(8)
Give your eye rest, especially after
focusing much on things like computers, handset and televisions.
(9)
Do not engage in smoking because it
can damage the eye.
(10)
Always make use of eye shade (glasses)
in harsh weather condition, like windy and dusty condition.
(11)
When your eyes are infected, see an
optician for treatment.
