List of Government, non-Government and Foreign Undergraduate Scholarships for Nigerian Students.
  1. Federal Government Scholarships Tenable in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions The Nigerian Federal Government through its Ministry of Education offers the “Nigerian Scholarship Awards Tenable In Nigerian Tertiary Institutions” to Postgraduate, Undergraduate, HND and NCE students of Nigerian origin. All courses, both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, offered at Nigerian tertiary institutions are eligible. This is a Full Fee scholarship award, and the annual application deadlines are usually in April.
  1. Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) Oversea Scholarships for Nigerians The Federal Government of Nigeria through its Ministry of Education offers the “Bilateral Educational Agreement (BEA) Oversea Scholarships” to Nigerian undergraduate, masters and doctoral students. The scholarship duration range from 4 – 9 years depending on the level and the country of study. The participating countries are responsible for the tuition and accommodation, while Nigeria government takes care of the remaining needs. Annual application deadline is usually in late March.
  1. PTDF Scholarships Programme in Nigeria & Overseas (UK & France) The Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF, a parastatal of the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources offers the “PTDF Scholarship Scheme” to suitably qualified Nigerian Undergraduates, Masters and PhD students. Scholarships are awarded for studies in the United Kingdom and France, and also at upgraded Universities in Nigeria. However, Undergraduate level awards are for studies in Nigeria only, and on approved subject areas. Deadline for application is usually in late October every year.
  1. Rivers State Government RSSDA Undergraduate Overseas Scholarships The Rivers State Government, through the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) offers the “State Government’s Special Overseas Undergraduate Scholarship Programme” to suitably qualified candidates of both Rivers State and non-Rivers state origin. Awards per student covers the Air fare, Tuition (school, lab, books, etc), Accommodation (halls of residence within the school; private apartments outside the school), Feeding and Monthly upkeep. Application deadline is usually in December.
  1. Oyo State Scholarships Scheme for Oyo State Indigenes  The Oyo State Government, through its Scholarship Board, provides scholarships to indigenes of Oyo state who intend to study or are currently studying in tertiary institution(s) in Nigeria. All fields of study and courses available at those institutions are eligible. Scholarships are awarded for the whole duration of the students’ study period. The awards cover students tuition, and the scholarship application deadline is usually in late September.
  1. Lagos State Local Scholarship Award for Lagos State Indigenes  The Lagos State Scholarship Board administers both the Lagos State Local and Foreign Scholarship Awards. The Local Scholarship: Is for prospective students of Lagos State origin except otherwise directed by His Excellency. Students should be on full-time and not part-time studies in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The Foreign Scholarship: Is for students of Lagos State origin admitted into undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in recognized tertiary institutions outside Nigeria. Interested applicants are expected to purchase scratch cards to participate. Approved courses are those deemed to be within the manpower needs of Lagos State. Deadline varies.
  1. Imo State Government Scholarships for Imo State Students The Imo state government, through its governor, launched the “Imo State Government Scholarships” in January 2012 in fulfillment of Governor Okorocha’s promise to extend free education to the State owned tertiary institutions. The free education programme, commencing in September 2012 onwards, will be extended to indigenes of Imo State schooling in other tertiary institutions during the second phase of the programme. In addition, indigent students of the State-owned schools that are non-indigenes will also be awarded scholarships as well.
  1. Agbami Scholarships Programme for Undergraduate Nigerian Students Star Deep and its Agbami partners offers the “Agbami Medical and Engineering Professionals Scholarship” (AMEPS) to FULL-TIME Year 1 and Year 2 undergraduates of Nigerian origin, studying approved courses in universities or other relevant institutions within Nigeria. Scholarship winners are awarded a one-time financial aid, and application deadline is usually in February. The last deadline was 28th February.
  1. Agip Oil Company Undergraduate Scholarships for Nigerian students The Nigerian Agip Oil Company Limited (NAOC) offers the “Tertiary Institutions Scholarship Awards Scheme” to FULL TIME Year 1 undergraduate Nigerians in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria. The awards are of 2 categories – the Host Communities Merit Award (for applicants strictly from NAOC host communities) and the National Merit Award (for applicants from non-host communities). Only indigenes of NAOC host communities in Bayelsa, Delta, Imo and Rivers states SHOULD apply for the Host Communities Merit Award. Only candidates studying Engineering, Geology and Geosciences are eligible for the National Merit Award. Application deadline is usually in March.
  1. Mobil Nigeria Undergraduate National Scholarship Programme Mobil Producing Nigeria (MPN), operator of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC)/MPN Joint Venture awards annual scholarships to qualified undergraduate students in Nigerian Universities. Qualified and suitable students are those currently admitted in Nigerian Universities irrespective of state of origin including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Applicants must be registered full-time undergraduates in their 1st or 2nd year of study of approved courses in any accredited Nigerian University. Application deadlines are usually in August.
  1. (a). Shell Nigeria University Scholarship Programme The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited Scholarship Scheme offers first year students in all Nigerian universities the opportunity to study with an annual grant from the SPDC Joint Venture for the full duration of their course. Launched in 1960, this post-secondary scheme is open to all Nigerians studying degree programmes in Nigerian universities. The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve skills-base among young Nigerians. The application deadline is usually late October.(b). Shell Secondary School Scholarship Scheme The Shell Nigeria Secondary School Scholarship Scheme is for host communities in Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Imo and Rivers states. Every year, an average of 2,600 post-primary scholarships are awarded in the seven states. The Secondary School Scholarship Scheme is to help students pay through school, as well as enhance academic achievement in host communities.
  1. Nigeria LNG Scholarship Scheme for undergraduate students Every year, the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited offers the “Nigeria LNG Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme” to all Nigerian undergraduates in tertiary institutions in Nigeria. All approved fields of study available at Nigerian universities and institutions of higher learning are eligible. The award is the payment of a yearly allowance to successful beneficiaries. Application deadlines are usually in July.
  1. Total Nigeria’s National Merit Scholarship Programme Each year, Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited offers its annual “National Merit Scholarship Award” (or Nigeria Tertiary Institutions Scholarships)” to deserving Nigerian students in secondary and tertiary institutions as well as those in postgraduate studies. This effort is to boost the manpower base of the communities and prepare youths to take up challenging job opportunities within and outside the oil and gas industry. The application deadline is usually in April.
  1. NNPC/Addax National Tertiary Institutions Merit Scholarship Programme Addax Petroleum Development Limited offers the “National Tertiary Institutions Scholarship Awards Scheme” to qualified candidates of Nigerian origin. Applicants must be full time 100 level undergraduate students in any Nigeria Universities, Polytechnic or College of Education, and all courses offered at Nigerian tertiary institutions are eligible. The closing date for submission of all applications is usually in May.
  1. NWAG Nigeria Scholarships for Female Nigerian Students Every year, the Nigerian Women Association of Georgia offers 37 one-time undergraduate scholarships in the amount of fifty thousand Naira each on any course of study, to female Nigerian undergraduate students (one per state of origin) in Nigerian universities. Application deadline is usually in May .
  1. BAT Nigeria Scholarship for Undergraduate Students The British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) and the British American Tobacco Iseyin Agronomy (BATIA) offer the BATN/BATIA Scholarship Scheme for interested and qualified Nigerian undergraduates. The scheme is open to qualified children of BAT registered tobacco farmers and other qualified candidates from across Nigeria. Scholarship covers student tuition and other related fees. The closing date for acceptance of applications is usually in late October.
  1. MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship Scheme The MTN Foundation, Nigeria offers the MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarships for full time undergraduate students of Nigerian origin in various fields of studies tenable at Nigerian tertiary institutions (accredited public universities, polytechnics and colleges of education). The awards cover tuition, book allowances and stipend for one academic year. The annual application deadline is usually around October/November.
  1. MTN Foundation / MUSON Music Scholarship Awards The Musical Society of Nigeria in conjunction with The MTN Foundation announces the MTNF/MUSON Scholarship programme for a diploma course in Music at The MUSON School of Music, Lagos. The sponsorship support covers tuition, book allowance, and stipend (pocket allowance). Usually, all applications should reach the Director, MUSON School of Music in September.
  1. MUSTE Scholarships for Undergraduate Nigerian Students The “Mankind United To Support Total Education” is a scholarship arm of “Youth Empowerment and ICT Foundation”. It was founded with the aim of providing financial aid to outstanding Nigeria youths. The MUSTE Scholarship provides bursary to cover the cost of completing University or Higher degree program that is within 3 – 6 years. The award includes tuition and maintenance allowance. Application deadline varies from year to year, however, it is usually around October/November.
  1. Gani Fawehinmi Scholarship Programme Each year, the Gani Fawehinmi Scholarship Board announces four million naira scholarships for 20 to 40 Nigerian Students in Nigeria tertiary institution. Students must be of high academic standing. Scholarship is tenable at Nigerian higher institutions including Universities, Polytechnics and College of Education. Deadline falls around August each year.
  1. Ikeoha Foundation Scholarship Awards for Enugu State students The Ikeoha Foundation offers the “Ikeoha Foundation Scholarship Awards” for suitably qualified Nigerian students of Enugu West Senatorial District, Igbo-Eze North and Enugu North LGA origin. The Foundation, established in 1997 by Senator Ike Ekweremadu, targets underprivileged women and youth. Now a leading charity organisation, it is one of the most stable providers of financial assistance for disadvantaged populations and students in tertiary institution. Application deadlines vary.
  1. Merry Hearts Scholarship for Nigerian pre-university students The Merry Hearts Foundation Inc, a non-profit initiative, reaches out to underprivileged pre-university youths in impoverished regions of the world. The Merry Hearts Scholarship Fund is its initiative. The foundation is constantly seeking ways to make significant impact in educating and improving living conditions for those in need. It provides financial, moral, material and intellectual support in equipping students with the tools they need to succeed academically and socially.
  1. Young Women’s Scholarship Program The Peace Corps Nigeria Alumni Foundation and the Association of Nigerian Women Leaders in Diaspora collaborate to award $1000 scholarships to promising female college students of Nigerian heritage in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The program helps ease the financial burden of students with outstanding academic and leadership potential facing difficulties securing funds to complete their undergraduate studies because they have an international student visa and cannot seek employment to finance their education.
  1. Globacom GBAM Scholarships for Nigerian students The GBAM Scholarships, a major aspect of Globacom’s youth G-BAM Hi5ive program, empowers both the Secondary and Tertiary (University, College of Education, Polytechnic) student community in Nigeria by offering a scholarship of $5 million for 1,000 students. The G-BAM Hi5ive program offers a unique call tariff in the Nigerian market, allowing subscribers call special numbers at minimum costs, including other promotional offers targeted at the Nigerian youth.
  1. ABC Transport National University Scholarship Award ABC Transport Plc offers a number of University Scholarship Awards to suitably qualified Nigerian students. Applicants should be full-time FIRST YEAR (100 LEVEL) degree students of selected courses, in Nigerian universities. The approved courses are Engineering, Transport management, Purchasing/Supply, Business Administration, Accountancy, Materials management, Human resources, Public Administration, Mass communication, Computer science. Deadline falls within January.
  1. American University of Nigeria Scholarships The American University of Nigeria (AUN), structured like an American University and in partnership with the American University in Washington DC, offer the AUN Scholarships. The American University of Nigeria scholarships exam is open to all students, in order to further promote and encourage bright students in their academic pursuit. The school’s primary academic partner in the US is Tulane University – a University that supports development efforts around the world.
  1. Nigerian Girls Scholarship Fund This program provides financial assistance to needy girls entering senior secondary school in Kano and Katsina states of northern Nigeria, where the number of girls out of school is extremely high. The program supports the scholarship recipients until they graduate. Each scholar is chosen on the basis of her academic record, financial need and service to her community. PCNAF is collaborating with the Kano-based Inclusive Community Education and Development Association (ICEADA) to implement the program.
  1. Caleb University Scholarship Award Programme for Lagos State Indigenes Caleb University, a Private Christian University, offers scholarship to successful candidates on any of its full-time degree programmes. Scholarship value and other specific details have NOT been specified by the University nor by the Lagos State Scholarship Board. Completed application forms are usually submitted at the place of purchase or at the University permanent campus in Imota, Lagos in October.
  1. University of East Anglia Science Foundation Scholarships The University of East Anglia Faculty of Science and INTO University of East Anglia offer the the University of East Anglia’s Faculty of Science Foundation Scholarships. Citizens of all countries, EXCEPT the UK/EU, can apply; and each award is valued at about £13,450. For September entry, the application deadline is usually in July of same year; while for January entry, the deadline is usually in November of the previous year.
  1. Griffith International Scholarships for African nationals  The Griffith International Scholarships are offered to students from any African nation who are currently residing in Africa and planning to commence their studies at Griffith University. The value of each scholarship is worth about $3,000 tuition. Applications for semester 1 close in November for students commencing next February, and for semester in April for students commencing the next July.
  1. Google Anita Borg Scholarship for Female Students from Europe, Middle East, Africa The online technological giant, Google, offers the “Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship” for women from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The company offers it as part of its ongoing commitment to furthering Dr. Anita Borg’s (1949-2003) vision of revolutionising the way we think about technology and dismantling barriers that keep women and minorities from entering computing and technology fields. Through the scholarship, Google aims to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders..
  1. Kaplan International Colleges Scholarship Scheme for Nigerian Students Kaplan International Colleges (KIC) works in partnership with leading universities to prepare international students for studying a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the UK. KIC has launched a scholarship scheme for Nigerian students.
  1. Commonwealth Scholarships for Developing Commonwealth Countries The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is an international programme under which member governments offer scholarships and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth countries. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) is responsible for managing Britain’s contribution to the CSFP. Commonwealth Scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries are offered for Master’s, PhD, and split-site (PhD) study in the UK. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).
  1. Undergraduate Scholarships for Nigerians at University of Sheffield The University of Sheffield is pleased to offer a range of scholarships to students from Nigeria who show exceptional academic potential and are starting their studies at the University of Sheffield. The scholarships offered include: Faculty Undergraduate Scholarships, Nigeria Management Scholarships and Nigeria Merit Undergraduate Scholarships.
  1. Korean Government Scholarships for International Undergraduate students The Korean Government through the National Institute for International Education (NIIED) offers the Korean Government Scholarship Program for an undergraduate degree (KGSP-U). The objective of the Korean Government Scholarship Program for an undergraduate degree is to provide international students with an opportunity to conduct advanced studies at higher educational institutions in Korea in order to promote international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between the countries.
  1. Luz Neema Foundation (LNF) Scholarships for Nigerian students Nigeria is blessed with great academic resources and usually without a medium of harnessing expression. The scholarship program gives the opportunity to address these areas. Luz Neema Foundation (LNF) is an NGO (non-governmental organisation) and also not intended for profit, which has been legally constituted by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria and the Ontario Corporation of Canada for the development of communities, as well as the grassroots. It is funded by the Canadian government, corporate organisations and individuals. Although LNF was incorporated with CAC since the 6th of October, 2011, full operations commenced from the 1st of Mar
