EXAMINATION EVALUATION AGENCIES IN NIGERIA - WACE, NECO, JAMB, NABTECB



(a)       State Ministry of Education (SME)
            This ministry established to supervise the educational sector of the state. It is made up of several division, which, include the examination development division (EDP) and the curriculum development centre (CDC).
            Its functions.
(1)              Placement examinations for primary six pupils into the state secondary schools.

(2)              Its conducts junior secondary school certificate examination.
(3)              State peppers TC II like health and physical education, social studies, integrated science/ music
(4)              Curriculum development at state level.


(a)     WEST African Examination Council (WAEC)
These wast first established at Ghana in 1951, and later made effective in Nigeria, Sierra loan, and gavabia, and other countries.
The examination was conducted in May 1953. Then for the four members countries was conducted in December 1955. The establishment has it own buildings and examination hall in Accra, Lagos, Free Town, Banjul and Monrouia
(1)              To organizes examination such as, WASSCE, SSCE and the private GCE and
(2)              To produce examination syllabuses to the candidate/student 
(B) National Examination Council (NECO)
(c) Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).  
      This agency was established 1977. The aim of this board is to monitor admission into Nigerians Universities through a centralized system of examination.
      It conducted the examination, but the admission is done by the individual universities and sent back to Jams to communicate with successful candidate.
      The admission is based on merits jamb has taken over the responsibilities of organizing examination for admission into polythectics and colleges of education.
      The board services all, the federal and state government own  institutions as well as the private institution.
(1) National teachers institute (NTI)
      This agency was established 1981 with its headquarters at Kaduna state.
      The in June 1982, the agency took over the conduct of the teachers grade II certificate examination from west African examination council (WACE) because of incessant leakage of examination peppers. To up grade the quality of serving teachers. Then the agency introduce the distanced learning system (DLS).
      This was done to help teachers to upgrade their knowledge and qualification without losing their job.
      Its functions          
(1) Conducting the TCII federal peppers like principles and practice of education, mathematics and English language and
(2)   To produce materials for distance learner’s like auxiliary teachers and for those of N.C.E.
(E)      National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB)    
This agency was established by the decree number 70 of August 1993 and located at Benin City Edo State.

Its Functions 
Its conducted entrance examinations leading to the awards of
(1)              National Technical Certificate
(2)              Advance National Business Certificate
National Business Certificate and monitor and collect and keep records of conducts of technical colleges.
