THE PROBLEMS OF TOURISM IN ENUGU STATE - EASTERN NIGERIA

The Enugu State has failed in relation to tourism since it is not even included in tourist states in Nigeria. This means that it is not recognized due to lack of tourist sites that can really attract Western tourists. The state still work to do when it comes to reach the level of national and also international tourist center.

The obstacle that bothers most tourism development is the poor attitude of government, agencies of tourism, business men in the state, lacks of transportation, and inaccessibility some attractions because of transportation. The Enugu State has not even the airport. The state as most states in southern Nigeria is noted for armed robbery. The security forces are generally known to extort money House nearby drivers on main roads.

We find that there is a lack of infrastructure in Enugu region and it does not motivate tourists there visit even if there are adequate sites prevent government to attract tourism, the state is often very rigid and it does not encourage the private sector and the public to participate actively in this area. There are also no initiatives from the government to encourage people who are attractive to tourism but the government of the federal government doing more attention to sectors other than tourism.

Motivations as infrastructures are not available. Employees in this sector are not working hard and when they vandalize equipments and computers working or they sell. Another problem facing the sector is that of insecurity. Nigeria is known to come from a country in the world where dishonesty reigns.

For this, they are afraid to come here because of poor reception. The insecurity in Nigeria is also seen in the news is everywhere now in Nigeria. It should also be noted that the means of communication are lacking in some sites, most parts of Enugu do not have adequate means of communication especially in rural areas and some urban areas. Sometimes, political instability causes the drop in tourism. Therefore, we must make efforts to upgrade this sector.
