We have observed your numerous
contributions and philanthropic gestures towards service to humanity and wish
to solicit for a hand of fellowship. During our routine visitations to
hospitals, we observed patients whose medical treatments were stopped abruptly
due to lack of funds. We equally encountered patients who were discharged but
detained in the hospital because of their inability to settle their bills. For
instance, we saw children delivered through caesarean section who were already walking while they and their
mothers remained in hospital imprisonment for over a year. These are indeed
saddening!
Equally, we came face to face with
some indigent patients, who were battling not only with their illnesses but
also with extreme hunger and starvation. For instance, a woman in one of the
hospitals we visited, being detained for her inability to pay her bills,
complained of starvation while awaiting her ‘freedom’ and was in dire need of
food for sustenance. We gave her the little we had!
In the same vein, most indigent
widows do not have food to eat, let alone send their children to school.
Therefore, the future of these children without education is bleak and cycle of
poverty deepens.
As vanguards under MARTINS LIBRARY
fighting these scourges, we render assistance to indigent patients on admission
who are detained after discharge due to non-payment of medical bills. We pay
for those whose treatments were abruptly stopped because of funds. We help those who do not have access to
medical care because of poverty. And we also raise public awareness to the
plight of these brothers and sisters of ours who have become ‘medical
prisoners’ in our hospitals.
Similarly, we intend to provide
widows and orphans with skills and funds to start small scale businesses so
that they can cater for their families. MARTINS LIBRARY through its efforts
alone cannot do much in the light of the aforementioned, given its lean
resources; but with God through you, all these and more can be achieved.
Consequently, your support can be
invaluable and your contributions immeasurable, in restoring hope to the
hopeless; strength to the weak; help to the helpless and to practically
demonstrate our concern and care to all those tottering at the edges of life
whenever and wherever they are found. Together, we can lend hands to touch
lives.
