CHAPTER THREE: THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF EDUCATION IN KADUNA NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF KADUNA STATE


INTRODUCTION
This chapter deals with techniques of data collection which provides the researchers with relevant information needed for the study. It includes sources of data, tools and techniques for data collection and administration of questionnaires,  in Kaduna north local government area so as to have full access to research problems and the procedure employed in the process will enable researcher to know the contribution of women toward educational development in Kaduna state especially in Kaduna north local government.

POPULATION OF THE STUDY AND SAMPLE SIZE

 The 1991 census provisional result puts the population of Kaduna local government at 255,355 in each of the two districts in Kaduna north local government has the following population, Doka district having 184,070, kawo district has 71,285 respectively.
The scope of the research has been limited to some area due to the larger population size. Random sampling was applied in selection of the wards, but not on the basis of closeness, their participation towards the execution of educational development programmes is the concern of the researcher.
The local  government has a total of 10 wards in which the research selected 5 wards and from each ward 30 members of the education development association were selected which make up the total number of the people interviewed to 150.

 INSTRUMENTS USED FOR DATA COLLECTION OF THIS  STUDY.
In this research collection of the information is relevant to these research work, these research uses some instruments or materials to gather reliable information, these materials include the following:
·         Interview
·         Observation
·         Document

Interview
The interview as a material or instrument of collection of data is that some of the people in six selected wards were illiterates as such, they cannot fill questionnaire properly, so the  so on  the base of this research face to face interview was conducted so as to provide room for immediate feed back from the respondent and to be able to tell if he/ she is telling a lie.
Due to low level of literacy, oral interview was employed to interview all members of various group of educational development. Also in a nation with wide range of youth clubs, community development leaders, women association and civil servants since it enables the immediate feedback from the respondents. In  these work carried out, the role of women to the development of educational activities was analyzed.
 Some question were drafted on a sheet of paper and structured, the question was drafted to simply know whether they are telling the truth / fact that will answer the questions clearly.

Observation
The use of both the participatory and non- participatory observation method was employed in this study.
In the participatory method of observation, the researcher participate actively in the various educational development project during the period of the study, this brings in mind of the researcher that there is a positive effect in the execution of educational activities in an area .During the process of participation observation, information was gathered though the interview are similar.
In the non- participatory method it information shows that the  that the local government contributed immensely towards the development of the areas through assisting educational development, in the case the researcher does not participated in any programme, information is gathered only through interview and document.

Document
Document was used to collect reliable information for this work, the process involves enquires aimed at breeding knowledge and scientific measure of the problems and the kind of assistant received from the local government document came in three ways and are as follows:
·         Personal document
·         Mass communication
·         Statistical records.
The work was done by going through some useful document involving monthly progressive report, files consisting of various information relevant to the topic, service and workshop journals, other information were collected from the zonal education development office.
