INTRODUCTION
It is pertinent to say that
in our society today that most of the people living in our society especially
in the rural environment   are ignorance
of law. It will not be surprise that so many of them want to know what law is
all about and to appreciate it with its regulative apparatus .  Therefore, it is on the verge of the above
little  introduction that  “Street
Law”  came about.

EXPLANATION
OF WHAT STREET LAW IS ABOUT
Street law can be explained
as a system of law which emanated to solve the problems of the less  privileged 
in  creating the awareness of law
in their minds. It is procedural and practical in nature in the sense that it
guides the law students or young lawyers to imbibe the counseling   skill of their  clients. 
Street law aims at
rendering free legal services to the indigent people around the environs.   Human rights as one of the  core 
areas in  which  street law 
borders much and other areas  in
which some people   in the society needed
to be educated on  are: 
Family
law and domestic violence, human rights, environmental and tenancy 
matters.  Section  33 (1) 
of  1999 constitution  is  of
the view that  every person has a
right  to life, and no one should  be deprived 
without the conclusive    decision
of the superior court  of  Record. 
Incidences had appeared severally in a situation where the local chiefs
may have constituted  on illegal
security   men in their pursuit of law
in  which they are ignorance of . This so
constituted boys instead of arresting the suspects and handing them over to
the  police they  elect taking the  law into their  own hands thereby killing the suspects. All
these occurrences are what the street law or lawyering seeks to expose and to
advice the  best way of handling  any legal 
issues arising  therefrom.  Under the Child’s Right Act, this Act  protects the right   of a child for any undue   treatment . For instance,  section  21 of 
the Act maintains that no person under the age  of 
eighteen years  is capable of
contracting  a valid marriage  and 
accordingly,  a marriage so  contracted is null and void  and  of
no effect whatsoever.  But the villagers
wouldn’t know all these except if they were thought  
 AREAS OF STREET LAW ACTIVITIES
A  careful looking into the above  explanation 
will show that the areas of street law activities  are as follows:  activities on human rights  in 
which case it is the duty of those who engage in  street lawyering to educate the masses
especially the  less privileged about
their rights in the  society. Examples, the right to maintain  an
action  against a trespassers, right  to  institute 
an action against private  or even
public nuisance  in or   environment.  
Right
of maintaining an action against the government for   taken ones land without compensation.
In  conclusion, it is  vital to say hear that  the 
activities of street law is 
regulatory  and  educative 
in nature.
