STEPS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

The National Universities Commission (NUC), wishes to announce to the general public, especially prospective promoters of private universities, the fourteen-step procedure for establishing private universities in Nigeria.

FOURTEEN-STEP PROCESS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

  1. Application in writing stating the intent for the establishment of the University
  2. Interview of prospective proprietors
  3. Collection of application forms
  4. Submission of application forms and relevant documents]intensive review/analysis of documents by experts in relevant NUC departments
  5. Revision of documents by proprietors, based on the report of SCOPU
  6. Interactive meeting of SCOPU with the proposed university
  7. First site assessment visit
  8. Finalization of documents
  9. Second (final) site assessment visit
  10. Security screening of proprietors and Board of Trustees
  11. Approval by National Universities Commission (NUC) Management
  12. Approval by National Universities Commission (NUC) Board
  13. Approval by Federal Education Commission (FEC)
